On Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Synod House, Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, five advocates for Environmental Health and Sustainable Development will be honored with the WE ACT For Environmental Justice Award. This award is given to individuals and organizations that have made substantial inroads to preserve the natural and built environment and improve environmental health in communities of color.

The honorees for 2005 are:

  • ALPHONSE FLETCHER Chairman, Fletcher Asset Management
  • DR. KENNETH OLDEN Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)
  • DR. JOSEPH GRAZIANO Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University
  • LUCILLE MCEWEN, ESQ. President and CEO of Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement
  • DR. RAFAEL LANTIGUA Associate Director of General Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital
  • FULL SPECTRUM BUILDING AND DEVELOPMENT, INC. Harlem-based development firm that has built the first green building in Harlem
WE ACT’s 2nd annual fundraising event will commemorate the 35th anniversary of Earth Day, and will be the first Earth Day celebration ever to be held in Harlem. Please click here for information on how you can participate in this groundbreaking event.
